    The first sunday of each month the City of Hollywood, FL features a pre-1976 classic car show on Hollywood Blvd! Details from their site:

    Hollywood Boulevard becomes a dream come true for the vintage automobile enthusiast with dozens of pre-1976 cars! $15 registration fee for cars to participate.

    Car show 10 am – 3 pm, registration begins 9 am.

    A family day including music, jugglers, clowns, facepainting and children’s art & crafts. FREE.

    We’re going to try to make it, although it won’t be in the ’53 Chevy…it’s the rainy season here in South Florida, and the Chevy doesn’t have a top yet. So we’ll take the PT-GT Convertible, that way if the rains drop we’ll be covered!

    If anyone lives near but has not experienced downtown Hollywood, it’s a rejuvenated 1950’s style main street with kool shops, restaurants, lounges and outdoor cafés. Music from smooth jazz to dance spills out onto the street. The boulevard itself boasts a beautifully landscaped median with palm trees and flowers. There’s a true mix of fun things to do, from wine bars to art galleries, a magic shop, dance clubs, pizza, an old fashioned pawn shop, and the newly remodeled Young’s Circle with outdoor concerts and fairs. Day or night, rain or shine, there’s always something fun to do in the strip.

    Make sure you check out the large white building on the corner of Hollywood Blvd. & Young’s Circle. It’s currently vacant and in a

    state of disrepair (long story), but still has its dignity. It’s the Great Southern Hotel, part of the original 1928 city plan of Hollywood. Some of you may recognize it as the back-shot in one of the final scenes of 1969’s Midnight Cowboy. It’s got a lot of great history, and will hopefully be renovated and somehow integrated with Hollywood’s new image.
